Be a part of a Jobs for Life leadership team as an instructor, business relations leader, business panelist, site leader, mentor leader, prayer team, or other role
Bring a meal to a Jobs for Life class for the students and team
Host a Jobs for Life class at your church or in collaboration with neighborhood churches
Internationals
Cultural exchange partners to meet weekly with Virginia Western international students for spring 2020 semester (training is provided)
Families/small groups/churches to support Congolese Christian refugee families in learning American life skills
Bilingual (Spanish/English) volunteer to answer the phone one day a week at El Puente and make appointments for immigration legal consultations
Volunteer teachers for refugee arrivals at Commonwealth Catholic Charities (training is provided)
Childcare workers for adult English classes (daytime and evening)
Warm winter clothing donations for refugees and immigrants (children and adults): closed-toed shoes, boots, sneakers, hats, gloves, socks, jackets, vests, coats (puffy coats preferred – please no wool). Underwear is always also needed. If possible, please donate smaller sizes – many of the refugees and immigrants who come here tend to be a lot smaller than the average American! )
Provide household furnishings and items for newly-arrived refugees
Provide the first meal of culturally appropriate food for newly-arrived refugees
Mentor a refugee teenager or young adult
Men (high school age and older) to play soccer with The Eagles soccer club (mostly international young men) on Saturday evenings at Straight Street
Provide sponsorships, scholarships, and equipment for refugee teen soccer club
Help teach English classes at churches
Host families for American National University international students who are learning English
Transport students to and from English classes at New Century Church on Thursday night
Serve as a conversation partner with international university students
